The ever-popular Singapore Night Festival kicks off its 12th edition today with the Night Lights showcase all over the Bras Basah-Bugis district. Visitors will be treated to at least 17 light artworks for the first weekend, all of which will be shown from 7.30pm to midnight until Aug 31.
The district has always been known as the arts and heritage district in Singapore’s civic centre, and home to museums and monuments. One of most popular shows include This is Keep Dreaming, a light projection by internationally renowned French group Spectaculaires that transforms the iconic National Museum of Singapore into a canvas teeming with motifs of sea creatures and a lush secret garden.
Festival-goers will not want to miss headlining act Fuerza Bruta, an immersive 30-minute theatre show by globally-acclaimed Argentinean troupe. Set to take place from Aug 29 to 31, the 360-degree outdoor party will showcase high-octane and action-packed aerial acts, suspended “stages” and plenty of confetti.

As a nod to the Singapore Bicentennial celebrations, several works will reference a Southeast Asian connection, casting a spotlight on folklore and traditions in the region.
One of them is the Legend of Ramayana, which will take over the National Museum of Singapore’s Banyan tree. Inspired by the Indian epic poem, the projection by Spectaculaires will follow Prince Rama’s quest to rescue his beloved wife Sita from the demon King Ravana, through the eyes of a venerable Banyan tree.
