The Speedmaster ‘Silver Snoopy Award’ 50th Anniversary (All photos: Omega)
Fifty years ago, Omega received the coveted Silver Snoopy Award from NASA in recognition of its unique contributions to space exploration. This includes the vital 14 seconds timed by the crew’s Speedmaster Professional chronographs that determined the successful rescue of Apollo 13.
The Swiss watchmaker celebrates this milestone celebration with the Speedmaster ‘Silver Snoopy Award’ 50th Anniversary. The namesake beagle wears his famous spacesuit in an embossed silver medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock and reappears on the caseback in an orbiting rocket, thanks to an animated black-and-white Command and Service Module.
In a feat of animation and high horology, Snoopy takes a trip around the mysterious far side of the moon — just as the Apollo 13 crew did — whenever the chronograph seconds hand is in use. The lunar surface is decorated with unique micro-structure metallisation with Earth depicted in the distance, rotating once per minute in tandem with the small seconds hand.

The phrase “Eyes on the Stars” is engraved on the case back, as are the 1970 dates that commemorate the Apollo 13 mission and Omega’s receipt of the award.
The 42mm stainless steel timepiece features a silver dial with blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers, hands and subdials, and a matching blue nylon fabric strap. A tachymeter scale is expressed in white enamel on the blue ceramic bezel.
