On Dec 22, Marina Bay Sands will unveil a permanent and interactive attraction, Digital Light Canvas, at the North Promenade of The Shoppes. The masterpiece was created by multi-award-winning Japanese art collective, teamLab, which also created the Future World: Where Art Meets Science permanent exhibition at the ArtScience Museum nearby.
Featuring teamLab’s proprietary 4D vision display technology, Digital Light Canvas is a 14m light sculpture that is suspended from the ceiling. More than 401,000 full-coloured LEDs are strung inside 608 tubes hanging within the cylindrical sculpture. Visitors can project preprogrammed 3D objects onto the installation using their smartphones.
Under the sculpture is a circular 15m floor consisting of 7.7 million individually controlled LEDs, which allow for graphics to be rendered on the floor in real time, in reaction to people’s movement and behaviour. The 20m tall installation has four show modes that are accompanied by unique soundtracks. The Digital Light Canvas is open from 12pm to 8pm from Sunday to Thursday, and from 12pm to 9pm on Friday and Saturday.
