You probably saw MINI’s new capsule collection billed “MINI Fashion Field Notes" at Pitti Uomo 94 in Italy, one of the leading fairs worldwide for men’s fashion and lifestyle, in June. Now, the limited-run collection – a collaboration between MINI and The Woolmark Company dedicated to promoting up-and-coming talented designers – will be exclusively shown for the first time in Asia at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2018.
The idea for the collection stems from the concept of travelling and transcending borders. The latest MINI Fashion initiative seeks to reimagine travel as “a state of mind, a gateway to pushing boundaries and allowing the outside world to influence what happens within”. Four distinct global designers – Liam Hodges (UK), Staffonly (China), PH5 (USA) and Rike Feurstein (Germany) – were invited to interpret their personal travel experiences through fashion, with wool as the principal material. Most of them are alumni of the International Woolmark Prize, one of the world’s most renowned awards for rising stars of the fashion world.
“Transcending borders”, an integral theme in MINI Fashion’s activities, denotes more than crossing physical territories or making the transition from point A to B. It encapsulates MINI’s values for outstanding urban exploration while encouraging next generation design talents to discover the city’s style.
MINI Fashion and The Woolmark Company will also be hosting Fashion Talks where fashion experts will weigh in on the borderless nature of inspiration in conjunction with the capsule collection launch at KLFW. Stay tuned for more details.
