The Rolls-Royce of SUVs
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars showcased its portfolio of highly bespoke vehicles in full for the first time in history at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In addition to the Cullinan, the Rolls-Royce of SUVs, the brand presented extremely rare expressions of Dawn, Wraith, Ghost and its flagship, Phantom, alongside a photography exhibition in a space on the Laundry Green, adjacent to Goodwood House, West Sussex, England.
Two of the three Cullinans on display were prototypes that returned from their punishing global programme to prove their durability by assisting stricken vehicles on a hill climb course. Both have been adapted to comply with motor sport regulator FIA regulations and, for the Festival of Speed only, include roof-mounted light bars, heavy-duty tow functions and “straight tow” equipment that allows them to pull-start vintage vehicles.
This majestic car and the extraordinary handcraftsmanship applied to each one was, in fact, the subject of an exhibition of images captured by portrait photographer Cat Garcia. Previewed during London Craft Week and showcased publicly for the first time at the 2018 Festival of Speed, the images took viewers inside Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood home, revealing the meticulous artistry lavished on the Cullinan. The images, captured exclusively on Leica’s flagship SL camera, showcased the men and women who can proudly claim that their hands built the marque’s remarkable SUV.
