Two of the most dynamic women in art and fashion, Ashley Longshore and Diane von Furstenberg, have joined forces to celebrate extraordinary women in history and curate an art collection for International Women’s Month, celebrated annually in March.
Inspired by a meeting over a cup of tea, von Furstenberg had the idea to curate a collection of Longshore’s art to promote their love of inspirational women throughout time. They developed a list of powerful and brave women, past and present, who have changed the course of history over many generations. The aptly named Inspiration Room will be on display at the brand’s flagship New York store until the end of May, and each art piece can be purchased on site.
For the collection, Longshore painted 37 portraits of extraordinary personalities from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Jackie Kennedy, Marlene Dietrich, Cleopatra, Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Elizabeth Taylor, Nina Simone, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks and Jane Goodall. She incorporated several of von Furstenberg’s heritage prints and her most celebrated designs into the paintings. This collection marks the first time Longshore is presenting work without sparkle or resin. The exhibition is on at DVF's flagship store on Washington Street in New York City through May.
