The prestigious short film and digital content competition that helped launch the careers of many aspiring filmmakers is returning for its 17th edition. Partnering Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest), the storytelling platform seeks to propel homegrown content creators further into the international spotlight.
Last round, participants had to craft their best work that revolved around the theme “RE:IMAGINE”. This year is all about defying the norm as innovative thinkers must imagine the breakthroughs of tomorrow that encapsulate the ideas of “Evolve”. “Much like the lens of Fowardism embraced by the marque, the Shorties thrive on challenging today’s common conventions,” says BMW Group Malaysia managing director Hans de Visser.
To build sustainable connections between creatives within the art industry, MIFFest has announced its upcoming festival from July 23 to 29, with an exciting line-up of programmes such as film screenings, masterclasses and networking opportunities. BMW Group Malaysia will be providing exclusive experiences during the week, namely chauffeuring international film directors and stars in the all-new electric sedan i7.
The grand prize winner of the BMW Shorties 2023 will be given a production grant of RM80,000 to produce a full-length film. Awards will also be presented to outstanding talents in various categories including best director, actor, actress, screenplay, cinematography, production design, editing and sound design. Additionally, the ceremony will hand out the People’s Choice Award as well as the Best Student Shorties Award. Submission starts on April 1 and closes on May 21 at 6pm via miffest.com.my.
