Ushera – Timeless, Christmas Edition
Malaysian jazz singer Ushera returns to Alexis for another pre-Christmas session filled with soul and funk. The self-professed bohemian diva, whose crisp, airy vocals have a way of captivating the audience, will bring classic songs from icons such as The Carpenters, Dionne Warwick, George Benson and Stevie Wonder. She will be accompanied by Ganesh Bala on piano, Omar Ibrahim on drums and Norman Rahman on bass.

Alexis Bistro Ampang, Great Eastern Mall, 303 Jalan Ampang, KL. Dec 20 & 21, 10pm. RM10++. For reservations, call 03 4260 2288.

Panggung Rakyat — Tarian Bhangra
Rounding up the final Panggung Rakyat line-up of cultural performances is perhaps the most rousing of them all — the Bhangra dance. Organised by the Cultural Economy Development Agency (Cendana) in collaboration with cultural organisation Pusaka, the free monthly performance and food festival has been held since August, with previous performances including Makyong, Portuguese dance, Kuda Kepang and Ronggeng.

Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja, KL. Dec 21, 8.30pm. Free admission. For more info, see here.

Too Much, Too Empty
Zelin Seah’s latest solo exhibition showcases 13 works on copper and a site-specific installation, the themes of which draw from his personal observations of his surroundings, as well as his experience of being ethnically Chinese in Malaysia. The semi-abstract paintings of lines and contours, of layers of paint and of etchings, are the artist’s contemplation of the interconnected spaces that create invisible boundaries and structures in life, denoting a struggle in connecting and being detached from society.

Richard Koh Fine Art, 229 Jalan Maarof, Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, KL. Until Dec 21. For more info, see here.
