Exciting merchandise awaits those who grew up a fan of Dato’ Mohammad Nor Khalid, better known as Lat. To welcome a better year ahead, MPH Bookstores has collaborated with the famous local cartoonist to create an exclusive calendar called Playtime with Lat 2021.
Lat is famously known for his comics, particularly those that illustrate the social and political scenes in Malaysia. However, this limited edition calendar will highlight some of Dato’ Lat’s favourite pastimes when he was a child growing up in the kampung. The accompanying illustrations can be found in his famous book, Kampung Boy: Yesterday and Today.
To bring us back to simpler times, the calendar brims with illustrations of traditional Malaysian childhood games, such as congkak, batu seremban, gasing, bamboo popguns and ice-cream-stick helicopters.
The year 2020 has been difficult for most, leaving most of us confused with uncertainties. Hence, this exclusive collaboration hopes to restore a sense of nostalgia to counteract the feeling of anxiety and loneliness as we usher in a new year.
Lat’s delicate signature doodle of his characters, coupled with the illustration of Malaysian childhood games, will surely keep us optimistic as we pave the way for a brighter year ahead.
