Just days before the 2019 edition of the highly-anticipated Art of Time exhibition, a select group of guests were invited to an exclusive preview hosted by The Edge and Swiss Watch Gallery. Since the Valiram-owned watch retailer staged its debut exhibition in 2011, the Art of Time, now in its sixth instalment, has become a must-attend on the calendars of aficionados.
Some 50 collectors and fans gathered at The RuMa Hotel and Residences to view novelties by seven of the 12 exhibiting brands. Trays bearing cocktails and flutes of GH Mumm champagne were circulated as guests mingled and admired timepieces by Arnold & Son, Girard-Perregaux, Graham, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaquet Droz, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith.
Welcome addresses by The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO Datuk Ho Kay Tat and Valiram Group executive director Ashvin Valiram were met with warm applause as guests settled into an intimate evening of fine dining and horology appreciation. The four-course menu by executive chef Tyson Gee was designed to pair with The Glenlivet 12 Year Old, Founder’s Reserve, Captain’s Reserve and 18 Year Old, and featured items such as grilled Black Angus sirloin steak with barbecued and pickled onions, seabass with chilli jam and basil dressing, and a dessert of pandan crème caramel with peanut brittle and coconut sorbet.
Even the persistent drizzle and ensuing traffic could not dampen spirits as guests socialised late into the evening. If the tone of the event was anything to go by, the Art of Time 2019 promises to be a thrilling discovery of watchmaking savoir-faire and wonder in keeping with this year’s theme, Icons of Time.
The Art of Time 2019 takes place at the centre concourse of Pavilion KL until Nov 10.
