For the longest time, critics have contended that prominent chefs are akin to rock stars – and that is not just a metaphor. Although in the case of three-starred Michelin chef Thomas Bühner, he prefers to be inspired by one of St Regis’ enduring brand passion: jazz.
The German chef, voted “Newcomer of the Year” in 2001 and “Chef of the Year” just five years later by Gault Millau, will helm St Regis Kuala Lumpur’s star-studded Guest Star Chef Series with an avant-garde, six-course dinner from Aug 15 to 18 at The Brasserie. His signature dishes such as the Wagyu tenderloin and wild cod consommé, red mullet in spiced oil with sea urchin cream, and duck magret will be riding out of the kitchen on the commanding vocal balladry of Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James. The culinary journey will end with the latter’s classic love anthem At Last.
“There is neither more an authentic nor intense flavour, than the original, pure flavour of an ingredient,” Chef Bühner describes his three-dimensional approach to cooking. “The first dimension constitutes each individual product’s natural flavour; the second dimension describes how each dish is prepared; and the third dimension represents the extensive range of my cuisine.”
The Guest Star Chef Series is in celebration of St Regis’ Exquisite Experiences, a collaboration which features star-studded chefs from all around the world, each with a story inspired by the brand’s passion for art, polo, jazz and more. Hideyuki Kikuchi (Ginza Tenkuni, Japan), Ryan Clift (Tipping Club, Singapore) and winner of Master Chef Australia Diana Chan are just some of the award-winning chefs who were featured in the past.
