Since its inception in 2017, The Macallan Classic Cut has never failed to up the ante with its annual releases of highly complex, outstanding quality single malts — and this year is no exception. The 2024 expression, eighth in the series, commemorates the exemplary craftsmanship and inimitable character synonymous with the illustrious distillery’s whisky-making ethos. Like its predecessors, its production is carefully overseen by The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team, with the casks meticulously sourced, seasoned and selected to ensure optimal colour and aroma in each creation.

This release blends ex-Bourbon American and sherry-seasoned European oak casks to attain a decadent vanilla flavour most prominent when tasted at its full potency, a powerful 52.4% ABV (alcohol by volume). Ripe fruit, marzipan and fresh herbs fill the nostrils, while a sip of the sunrise-hued ambrosia unfurls velvety notes of baked custard and milk chocolate complemented by juicy green apple and balanced spices on the palate. The lasting impression of this tapestry is a long, sweet and rich finish. True to its name, however, this versatile spirit gains new dimension when cut with water to an ABV of 40%: the mixture paves the way for a luscious medley of tropical fruit and zesty lemon to emerge and tantalise.
