Home-grown jewellery brand Habib has a tradition of unveiling fresh editions of its gold wafers for everything, from showcasing weaving techniques and the Petronas Twin Towers to tropical plants. This Hari Raya, the label has turned to another national icon, expertly capturing the intricate artistry of the wau in five coins.

Made from 999.9 fine gold and weighing 0.2gm each, the coins are fashioned after kites from around the country: the Wau Dodo Helang, Wau Kucing, Wau Bulan, Wau Seri Negeri and Wau Jala Budi. They are tucked into packets that highlight botanical designs in vivid colours and metallic embellishments. The kites on the envelopes sport central floral motifs native to the region, such as betel flowers, gardenia blossoms and hibiscus buds. Keen admirers will notice common woodworking styles — such as Itik Pulang Petang, Kepala Cicak and Pucuk Rebung motifs — outlining each wau.

These detailed pieces can be purchased at RM138 each or RM690 for the whole set. Add them to your collection, or present them to cherished ones this festive season.
