Jean-Michel Gathy, a living legend in luxury hotel and resort design, stands as the creative genius behind some of the world’s most iconic projects. With over 40 years of experience in the hospitality industry, he is a distinguished architect and interior designer.
Gathy, alongside the late Ed Tuttle and Kerry Hill, contributed significantly to shaping the DNA blueprint of Aman Resorts from its inception to its present glory. Their other notable projects include the Marina Bay Sands infinity pool, Aman New York, and Gathy’s most recent project, Jumeirah Bali, which was launched in July 2023.
His upcoming ventures for 2024 feature the launch of One&Only One Za’abeel Dubai, Cheval Blanc Seychelles, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok and Janu Tokyo in Azabudai Hills. Across his diverse projects, Gathy continues to emphasise comfort as a foundational element, shaping his approach to hospitality design and creating a home away from home.
One&Only One Za’abeel Dubai, a newly opened vertical urban resort, showcases Gathy’s vision inspired by the meaning of Za’abeel — white sand — which is seamlessly integrated into its narrative and design elements.
Set to open in March, Janu Tokyo, which means soul in Sanskrit, promises a spirited social scene contrasting with the quiet and peaceful retreat Aman is known for. Aman Nai Lert Bangkok will combine 52 suites with Aman Residences in the historic Nai Lert Park. Cheval Blanc Seychelles, opening in the third quarter, pays homage to creole traditions with 52 villas along Mahé Island’s southwestern coast.
