From Mother Nature’s palette to the first seedling of Spring, the colour green is adored by many for what it symbolises — growth and rebirth. And most dear to Only Watch, which has added the colour to its 10th anniversary charity auction, hope. Green is a new component in its bright and colourful story.
The acclaimed auction house has unveiled the 62 lots to be presented at its biennial charity auction on Nov 5 in Geneva, Switzerland, which will be hosted by Christie’s Geneva at Palexpo and followed online at christies.com.
Designs to look out for include J C Biver’s take on the minute repeater carillon tourbillon in the Catharsis model that comes with invisible gem-setting; Bulgari’s ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Marble made in an emerald Verde di Alpi marble with white veins that evoke images of the Alps decorated in lush greenery and snow-capped peaks; and the Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch that dazzles art-sensitive horologists with the likeness of the Japanese artist’s iconic smiling flower bedecked with 12 gem-encrusted petals. Chopard, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Boucheron and Tudor are among the other watchmakers involved.
The colour green and the hope it symbolises resonate with the auction’s philanthropic roots. As in previous editions, proceeds will go towards advancing research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies, the Monaco-based charity benefiting from the auctions, has been researching possible solutions to the hereditary disease and is launching clinical trials of a drug that could change the lives of DMD patients.
Only Watch has released the schedule for the world tour preceding the auction, covering eight stops and seven countries. It begins in Los Angeles on Sept 6 and wraps up in Geneva on Nov 4 and 5.
