Benedict Cumberbatch, most famously known for his mellifluous (and sometimes ominous, especially as the perilous dragon Smaug in Lord of the Rings) British voice, has swiftly progressed from being the ‘Internet’s boyfriend’ to a Best Actor Oscar nominee. His talents are far-reaching and aplenty, which include imitating an otter, mispronouncing the word ‘penguin’ and whipping out dialogue after dialogue at breakneck speed as the very fun-to-watch Sherlock on BBC.
Such tenacity in acting and enduring charm are probably reasons why the actor is selected as Jaeger-LeCoultre’s latest brand ambassador. “He embodies the elegant and active man of today with his integrity as an actor, a family man and someone who dedicates himself with energy to charitable endeavours,” the watchmaker claims.
Cumberbatch has built a strong reputation for playing peculiar, bright men very well, if his award-nominated performance as the father of computer science Alan Turing is any indication. Adding to that list and his expanding CV is his superhero outing as Marvel’s Dr Strange, who fittingly wore a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual engraved watch in the film. The charismatic actor will also be making his debut at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH) this week.
“Being a great watchmaking enthusiasts, I am delighted to be associated with such an outstanding watch manufacture as Jaeger-LeCoultre and to be visiting the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux,” says Cumberbatch.
