Tickets are now live for the timekeeping industry’s most prominent fair, Watches and Wonders, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from March 27 to April 2. The last two days of the fair will be open to the public, allowing connoisseurs of all inclinations to enjoy this immersive watchmaking experience.
An impressive 48 brands will be exhibiting at the fair this year, including Richemont stalwarts such as Cartier, Montblanc and IWC, former Baselworld regulars Patek Philippe, Hublot and Rolex, and independent watchmakers such as H Moser et Cie, MB&F and Czapek.
Watches and Wonders is devoted to time: the past, through objects crafted respecting a centuries-old tradition; the present, with timepieces that are revolutionising this art; and the future, which will be discussed in the LAB, an area dedicated to innovation and new technologies, driven by projects from exhibiting maisons that are looking to introduce the future into the heart of watch movements.
Also of interest is What time is it? a photographic exhibition presented by Karine Bauzin. The Swiss press photographer asked people she met in 20 different countries what the time was, and their answers can be summed up in one hand gesture, the same one repeated all over the world and which watchmakers themselves used when they invented the wristwatch.
While the salon is the highlight of this annual rendezvous, all of Geneva will hum to the rhythm of watch movements for the whole week. The major watch stores on Rue du Rhône and Rues Basses will also open their doors to unveil special designs, ornate pieces and rare complications during a skilfully orchestrated rally. Each of the participating brands’ boutiques has planned specific activities to welcome visitors and showcase their expertise.
A special evening event dedicated to watchmaking will be held in the Rues Basses on March 30 from 5pm to 9pm. This will be an opportunity to be drawn into the wonderful world of watchmaking, amid concerts, street entertainment and famous artists. Those who wish to prolong the experience can attend specially curated talks at the Pont de la Machine. This venue will also serve as an information centre throughout the week.
