Ferrari has always had a reputation for guarding its velvet rope. But those lucky enough to collaborate with the Italian maison will be receiving the full attention of chief design officer Flavio Manzoni. Such is the case with Montblanc, which created the Ferrari Stilema SP3 Limited Edition that honours the sleek and storied design language of the automotive legend.
The two fabled companies have previously worked together on a rollerball and fountain pen range that paid tribute to Enzo Ferrari as part of the “Great Characters” series.
This time around, a new writing instrument has been conceived to express Ferrari’s fluid shape through the use of light titanium — a rare choice for the German manufacturer — for the cap and barrel.
The angle of the cap top mimics the way the nose of the Daytona SP3 slices through the air, while the lined accents on the forepart and barrel are derived from the blades of the car’s bumpers. They create a visual interplay of light and darkness with bars that seem to disappear.
The exterior of this mighty pen may be distinctly Ferrari but its “engine” is unmistakably Montblanc. Just as a growling V12 powers the supercar, a handcrafted Au750 solid white gold nib with a hidden filling mechanism has a different kind of “petrol” coursing through its veins: ink.
Inspired by Ferrari’s innovative spirit, the ink-filling mechanism is stowed beneath a red semi-transparent blade slashing through the titanium barrel.
A real eye-catcher that will accentuate your notebook or pocket, the pen is engraved with an SP3 initial and laser-engraved with the iconic Prancing Horse logo on the cap. This engineering feat, defined almost entirely by ergonomics, is limited to just 599 pieces worldwide at RM118,500.
