The recent global launch of Omega’s Aqua Terra Shades in London boasted a full roster of megawatt celebrities, perfectly lighting up the English capital in the collection’s riotous new hues and star-studded style. We caught up with the multi-hyphenate Zoë Kravitz to talk about her career and sense of style.
How would you define a true artist?
Someone who is unafraid to make bold choices. Someone who is putting their goal or message, or what they want to relate to the world, over anything else. An artist shouldn’t be afraid to make people uncomfortable. Art is meant to make people feel things they sometimes don’t want to feel but it is important for us, as humans, to explore these things.
Is fashion important to you?
I love fashion and think it’s a form of self-expression, a beautiful art form. And I think it should be playful, not to be taken too seriously. Also, I like being comfortable, realistic. I live in New York, I walk around … and so I don’t want to choose fashion over comfort. Maybe on the red carpet but, in life, I don’t do that.
You balance masculine and feminine styles really well. What’s the trick to getting that right?
It feels true to who I am. It’s always been who I am. Sometimes I’m drawn to feminine designs and colours, and then really masculine, baggy things because I sometimes like to hide under my clothes. But it’s really just my personality. I try to dress the way I feel.
Who are your biggest fashion inspirations?
Nina Simone, Patti Smith and Audrey Hepburn.
What’s your take on women wearing bigger watches?
Big watch energy? I’m into it!
What would you like to have more time to indulge in?
Time with my family. We all live in different places, we’re all very busy. We see each other a few times a year, with holidays and things like that. But life is short. I just want to spend more time with the people I love.
And if you could turn back time and relive a moment in your life, what would it be?
I would go back to being a kid because I think that’s the most special time to be alive. Both my grandmothers have passed, so I think I would go back to the time when they were alive and spend a day with them.
