Malaysia and China strengthen ties with reciprocal visa-free entries.
Great news for Malaysian citizens! From Dec 1 this year until Nov 30, 2024, China’s government is implementing a 15-day visa-free policy for Malaysians holding ordinary passports. This initiative covers various purposes such as business, tourism, family visits and transit, boosting opportunities for travel and economic activities between the two nations.
China has extended this gesture to citizens of six countries, including Malaysia, allowing them to enter without a visa. Even though this exemption enhances travel, those with different purposes or who exceed the time limit would still need to follow the standard visa application process. Previously issued visas remain valid. In a significant move, Malaysia has reciprocated the goodwill by granting a 30-day visa-free entry to citizens of China and India from Dec 1. This initiative is part of the celebration of the 50-year strategic partnership between Malaysia and China.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had emphasised that this additional facility aligns with existing visa exemptions for citizens from Gulf countries and West Asian nations, such as Turkiye and Jordan. He made the announcement during Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s 2023 Annual National Congress on Nov 26, which was attended by 1,391 delegates and 1,269 observers at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
However, it is crucial to note that security screenings would not be neglected. Th e prime minister said initial screenings would still apply to all tourists and visitors, highlighting that individuals with criminal records or potential security risks would not be allowed entry. This extended 30-day visa-free entry aligns with the current benefits enjoyed by eight Asean countries for social visits, tourism and business, fostering stronger ties and promoting cross-cultural exchange between nations.
