Having completed his first successful season in the professional basketball league in the United States, it seemed only natural that Washington Wizards’ Rui Hachimura — who has loved G-Shock watches since he was a student — should mark the occasion by signing a global partnership agreement with Casio in November last year.
The Casio x Rui Hachimura model, also known as the GST-B100RH, has the brand’s lauded shock-resistant construction which is adorned with gold ion plating on its case and bezel.
Hachimura, who oversaw the design process from start to finish, wanted to incorporate emblematic features including a “hachi” (eight in Japanese) logo that represents his last name and jersey number. One only has to look at the caseback for that — his signature “Black Samurai” logo has the “hachi” character crossed with a Japanese sword to also resemble the letter H.
On the other hand, the black base colour of the watch is highlighted with bold red accents on the index mark, button pipe at the 8 o’clock position as well as the dial indicator.
Hachimura is the first basketball player to have ever done a signature collaboration with the Japanese watchmaker.
“Casio has come up with an amazing watch that perfectly captures the design I envisioned. I think it goes well with various clothing styles. It was also cool to see my special “Black Samurai logo” design on the watch, as it is an important symbol to me,” says the 22-year old.
The watch will be available in Malaysia at the end of September 2020 at G-Factory stores and authorised dealer stores for RM 1,919.
