Surviving the challenging year that has been 2021 is an achievement deserving of a splurge or three, and Japanese watchmaker Seiko’s new limited-edition, Asia-specific releases are more than worthy of consideration.
For diving enthusiasts, the new Prospex Save the Ocean Asia Special Edition features a dial and silicon strap that reflect the blue shades of the sea, while the bright orange accents are inspired by underwater coral reefs. A zirconia ceramic bezel is featured in this design series and the combination of vivid orange numerals and ceramic bezel ensures both high legibility and durability.
The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series Asia Limited Edition is more for the sartorially driven among us. This watch beautifully captures the simplicity and refinement of traditional Japanese aesthetics with its delicately textured dial and creates a modern edge with its sharp and angular case construction. Protecting the Calibre 6R46 is a dial in the traditional gofun colour — which adds a yellowish effect — while rose gold-coloured hands glide magically over matching indices.
For the ultimate splurge, the Hi-Beat 36000 Asia Limited Edition 2021 features a design code that forms the cornerstone of all Grand Seiko timepieces. This design series is where history, manual craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology converge.
Like the twilight, or tasogare in Japanese, the grey Mt Iwate pattern dial depicts the scenery when light and shadow coexist in an ever-changing tableau, and reflects the ridgeline of the magnificent mountain, visible from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where all its mechanical timepieces are made. Each watch is Zaratsu polished with extra care by skilled craftspeople.
