The financing arm of BMW Malaysia has completed its reforestation efforts in Borneo, in which saw 735 new trees planted under the Restore Our Amazing Rainforest (ROAR) programme. The initiative, which ran from May 1 to July 31, 2021, was held in partnership with Animal Projects and Environmental Education (APE Malaysia).

Contributions were made on behalf of customers who purchased the BMW 330e M Sport, 530e M Sport, 740Le xDrive and X5 xDrive45e M Sport, as well as the MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 and SE 3 Door. For every RM100 raised, five new trees were successfully planted at the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary as part of ROAR’s programme, which aims to restore habitats of endangered animals such as the orangutan and Borneo pygmy elephant, as well as to counteract our collective carbon footprint.

“In the last year, we have made several commitments to give back to local communities in any way we can,” shares BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia CEO Matthias Schlesiger.

“We started with the BMW Safety 360°campaign, where we were able to raise donations to fund complimentary child car seats for families in need. We extended the same effort to biodiversity conservation as well, and partnered with APE Malaysia to support their reforestation efforts in the forests of Borneo. The protection of natural resources ultimately falls onto the very people who benefit from it, and we are grateful that our customers share this conviction with us.”

In the end, RM100 from every funded contract of the same range of BMW and MINI PHEV models was channelled to local non-governmental organisations Refuge for the Refugees and Empire Project, both of which are providing essential aid to vulnerable communities in Malaysia.
