Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
If you thought advent calendars are only available during Christmas, you’d be surprised that Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur has fashioned one for Mid-Autumn Festival too. Partnering award-winning local fashion designer Melinda Looi for yet another collaboration, the hotel has dreamt up The House of Shi Wu, a miniature box embellished with architectural motifs and design found in Peranakan homes. Shi Wu, or “fifteen’, not only represents the 15th day of the Lunar Calendar, it also signifies the number of hidden surprises in the “house”, which should be unveiled one by one leading up to the actual celebration on the 10th. Treasures within consist of four choice of mooncakes (Shanghainese yam with single yolk; pure red bean; pure pandan; white lotus with double yolk); premium teas, fortune cookies, paper lantern, designer scarf, scented candle, and more.
Purchase here. The House of Shi Wu is priced at RM328nett.

The St Regis Kuala Lumpur
Sometimes bigger is, in fact, better. St Regis takes the cake (pun intended) for the most massive moon, housed in an orange leatherette trunk that pays tribute to the hotel’s equestrian spirit. The gigantic 6.5in mooncake comes with traditional lotus seed paste and eight yolks (lucky number or ode to the eight moon phases? You decide). On another note, if it’s your intention to pull all the stops this Mid-Autumn Festival, upgrade the Super Mooncake Trunk to include a bottle of Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old. Now that’s what we call a perfect pairing.
