As any romantic will tell you, it is all right to make a big deal out of a Hallmark holiday sometimes. These restaurants in the city have curated a special dining experience that will send hearts aflutter.
Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur
Because you are a thoughtful companion and diligent planner, a routine candlelit dinner for two can no longer cut it. Apart from designing an elaborate menu that features options such as fresh oysters, red snapper and pan-fried Angus tenderloin fillet with foie gras, Mandarin Grill is throwing in an extra perk: an uninterrupted view of the KLCC Park against the Petronas Twin Towers. After dessert, which comprises a luscious chocolate tart and pralines, proceed to pop the champagne or, if the moment is right, the all-important question.
Available on Feb 14. RM550 per person with a complimentary glass of champagne. Call (03) 2330 8888 or email [email protected] to make reservations. See more here.
The Chow Kit Kitchen & Bar
Yes, romance is in the air but more crucially, it is also in the details. The hotel has gladly set the mood for you, from preparing a complimentary flute of Sanfeletto Prosecco and amuse bouche to showering your table with delicate rose petals. Now that the evening is heady with anticipation, impress your significant other with a four-course meal that starts with poached tiger prawns and chargrilled water bamboo shoots, as well as the hotel’s signature chilli crab pasta. For mains, opt between charcoal-grilled chicken with mushrooms and slow-cooked beef ribs, before capping the night off with a rich white chocolate mousse.
Available from Feb 13 to 15. RM220++ per person. Reserve via (03) 2778 6688 or thechowkit.com.
Peaches and Cream x Heeren Mansion
Valentine’s Day falls on the fifth day of Chinese New Year, so it is possible to feel overwhelmed by the deluge of treats and round-the-clock bingeing. As an alternative, celebrate on Chap Goh Mei and make a trip out of it. Enjoy a four-course affair surrounded by Peranakan grandeur at Melaka’s Heeren Mansion. In this collaboration with Kuala Lumpur’s Peaches and Cream, the "Love & Lantern" menu entices with bounty from the sea — Hokkaido XL scallop, sea bass and Muar Wild Sea Prawns — as well as duck leg confit sourced from Perak. The brasserie’s famous dessert trolley also rolls into town, so diners can end the occasion on a sweet note with marmalade trifle, lemon curd tart, orange almond cake, fruit pavlova, dark chocolate tart and brandy fruit cake.
Available for lunch and dinner on Feb 24. Both sessions include a private house tour and live music from the mansion’s grand piano during the meal. RM268 per person. Call (012) 606 3666 to reserve. See more here.
The Ruma Hotel and Residences
Prix-fixe meals are typically long and predictable but you can rely on Atas to put a unique spin on the classic dinner date. Leave the heavy lifting to the chefs who have put together an ensemble that includes foie gras mille feuille, Australian Angus striploin and, for the perfect finale, chocolate and pecan tart. Dining guests will also be entitled to an exclusive room offer as well as 10% off treatments at the hotel’s UR Spa.
Only on Feb 14. RM388 nett per person. Call (03) 2778 0763 or book via theruma.com.
